FORECAST FOR THE LESSER ANTILLES

Cloudy to overcast with moderate to heavy showers, gusty winds and thunderstorms over the Leeward Islands and areas further to the west-northwest. Elsewhere, occasionally cloudy with some scattered showers and possibly isolated thunderstorms.

TROPICAL WEATHER OUTLOOK

Tropical Storm Laura will continue to affect the northern portion of the region during the forecast period. Moisture and instability generated by Tropical Storm Laura will continue to cause cloudiness, showers and isolated thunderstorms over parts of the Windward Islands during the next 24 hours. 

…TROPICAL STORM LAURA…

At 5:00 am today, the centre of Tropical Storm Laura was located near latitude 17.6 North, longitude 65.5 West or about 70 miles or 110 kilometres southeast of San Juan Puerto Rico. Laura is moving toward the west near 21 mph or 33 km/h and a generally west-northwestward motion at a faster forward speed is expected over the next couple of days.  On the forecast track, the centre of Laura will move near or over portions of the Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico this morning, near or over Hispaniola this afternoon and tonight and near or over eastern Cuba Sunday and Sunday night.

Maximum sustained winds are near 40 mph or 65 km/h with higher gusts. Some slow strengthening is forecast during the next few days.

Laura does not pose a direct threat to Saint Lucia and the rest of the Windward Islands, however moisture and instability generated by this system will continue to affect these areas during the next 24 hours.

A tropical wave located over the far eastern Tropical Atlantic is moving westward at 12 mph or 19 km/h. This wave has a low chance of further development during the next five days.
