…JERRY BECOMES THE TENTH NAMED STORM OF THE 2019 SEASON…

At 11:00 am today, the center of Tropical Storm Jerry was located near latitude 14.6 North, longitude 49.2 West or about 791 miles or 1272 kilometers east of Saint Lucia. Jerry is moving toward the west-northwest near 14 mph or 22 km/h. A west-northwest motion at a slightly faster forward speed is expected over the next few days. On this track the system will be near the northern Leeward Islands Friday and pass north of Puerto Rico on Saturday.

Maximum sustained winds have increased to near 50 mph or 85 km/h, with higher gusts. Jerry is forecast to become a hurricane by late Thursday, with little change in strength anticipated on Friday and Saturday.

Interests in the northern Leeward Islands should monitor the progress of this system.

A tropical wave located over the eastern Tropical Atlantic has a low potential for further development during the next few days as it moves westward at 17m mph or 28 km/h.

…JERRY BECOMES THE TENTH NAMED STORM OF THE 2019 SEASON…

At 5:00 am today, the center of Tropical Storm Jerry was located near latitude 14.1 North, longitude 47.7 West or about 960 miles or 1545 kilometers east of

the Leeward Islands. Jerry is moving toward the west-northwest near 13 mph or 20 km/h. A west-northwest motion at a slightly faster forward speed is expected over the next few days. On this track the system will be near the Northern Leeward Islands Thursday night or Friday.

Maximum sustained winds are near 45 mph or 75 km/h, with higher gusts. Further strengthening is forecast during the next couple of days and Jerry is expected to become a hurricane by the time it moves near the Northern Leeward Islands.

Interests in the Northern Leeward Islands should monitor the progress of this system.

An area of low pressure is expected to develop this weekend to the east of the Windward Islands. Some gradual development of this system is possible as it moves west-northwestward over the islands and across the Eastern Caribbean.

A tropical wave located over the Eastern Tropical Atlantic is moving westward near 12 mph or 19 km/h.

..TROPICAL DEPRESSION TEN MOVING WEST NORTHWESTWARD AND EXPECTED TO STRENGTHEN…

 At 5:00 pm today, the center of Tropical Depression Ten was located near latitude 13.4 North, longitude 45.6 West or about 1110 miles or 1785 kilometers

East of the leeward islands. The depression is moving toward the west northwest near 10 mph or 17 km/h. This motion, with a faster forward speed is expected over the next few days. On this tract, the system will be near the northern leeward islands Thursday night or Friday. Maximum sustained winds are near 35 mph or 55 km/h with higher gusts. Strengthening is forecast during the next couple of days and this depression is expected to become a tropical storm tonight. The system is forecast to become a hurricane by the time it moves near the northern leeward islands. 

Interests in the Northern Leeward Islands should monitor the progress of this system.

TROPICAL WEATHER OUTLOOK

Lingering moisture and instability in the wake of a tropical wave together with the Inter-Tropical Convergence Zone will continue to cause cloudiness, showers and thunderstorms mainly over the southern portion of the Lesser Antilles during the next 24 hours. 

The low pressure centre associated with the tropical wave located about 1000 miles east of the Lesser Antilles has become better organized and is now Tropical Depression Ten. At 11:00 am today, the center of Tropical Depression Ten was located near latitude 12.9 North, longitude 44.9 West. The depression is moving toward the west-northwest near 12 mph or 19 km/h and will approach the northern Leeward Islands by Thursday night or Friday. Maximum sustained winds are near 35 mph or 55 km/h with higher gusts. Strengthening is forecast and the depression is expected to become a tropical storm later today.  Interests in the Northern Leeward Islands should monitor the progress of this system.
