Sam is moving toward the west near 15 mph or 24 km/h and this motion is expected to continue through tonight. A decrease in forward speed and a motion toward the west-northwest are expected over the weekend. Maximum sustained winds have increased to near 75 mph or 120 km/h with higher gusts. Rapid intensification is forecast to continue, and Sam is likely to become a major hurricane tonight or early Saturday. Interests in the Leeward and northern Windward Islands are advised to continue to monitor the progress of this system.

An increase in moisture and instability coupled with light to moderate southeasterly winds will generate occasional cloudiness and showers with a chance of isolated thunderstorms across parts of the Eastern Caribbean region during the next couple of days.

Sam is moving toward the west near 16 mph or 26 km/h and a general west to west-northwest motion is expected to continue over the next several days, with a gradual slowdown in forward motion. Maximum sustained winds have increased to near 60 mph or 95 km/h with higher gusts.   Sam is forecast to become a hurricane tomorrow morning and could become a major hurricane by Saturday.

Current model projections have the system east of the Windward Islands within the next 5 days.  Interests in the Leeward and northern Windward Islands are advised to continue to monitor the progress of this system.

Strengthening is forecast over the next several days. The depression could become a tropical storm later today, and a hurricane by the weekend.

At 5:00 pm today, the centre of Tropical Depression Eighteen was located over the eastern Atlantic near latitude 10.1 North, longitude 33.9 West. The depression is moving toward the west near 15 mph or 24 km/h and this motion is expected to continue for the next day or so, followed by a gradual turn to the west-northwest by Friday.
Maximum sustained winds are near 35 mph or 55 km/h with higher gusts. Strengthening is forecast over the next several days. The depression is forecast to become a tropical storm by tomorrow, and could be near hurricane intensity by the weekend.

Additional weakening is forecast over the next several days. Peter poses no direct threat to the Eastern Caribbean region.

Maximum sustained winds are near 40 mph or 65 km/h, with higher gusts. Rose could decay into a tropical depression this evening. Rose is expected to remain over the open Atlantic.
