FORECAST FOR THE LESSER ANTILLES

Partly cloudy with some scattered showers over the Leeward and northern Windward Islands. Further south, cloudy to overcast with moderate to heavy showers and thunderstorms.

TROPICAL WEATHER OUTLOOK

Moist and unstable conditions will cause cloudiness and some scattered showers over the Leeward and northern Windward islands.

A tropical wave over the Western Atlantic is moving westward at about 20 mph or 31 km/h. This wave is expected to begin affecting the islands sometime on Sunday.

Another tropical wave over the eastern tropical Atlantic, is moving westward at about 15 mph or 24 km/h. This tropical wave is producing an area of disorganized showers and thunderstorms. It could become a tropical depression by early next week.

…Tropical Storm Gonzalo still producing a small area of Tropical Storm-force winds…

At 11:00 am today the centre of Tropical Storm Gonzalo was located near latitude 10.5 degrees north, longitude 60.5 degrees west, about 55 miles or 90 kilometres southeast of Saint Lucia.

Maximum sustained winds are near 40 mph or 65 km/h with higher gusts. Little change in strength is expected before Gonzalo reaches the southern Windward Islands, later today. Weakening is expected after Gonzalo moves over the Eastern Caribbean Sea and this system is forecast to dissipate by Sunday night.

Tropical Storm Gonzalo is moving towards the west at 17 mph or 28 km/h. A westward to west-northwestward motion is expected for the next couple of days.
