FORECAST FOR THE LESSER ANTILLES

Partly cloudy with some scattered showers over the Leeward and northern Windward Islands. Further south, partly cloudy to cloudy with scattered moderate to heavy showers and thunderstorms.

TROPICAL WEATHER OUTLOOK

Moist and unstable conditions ahead of Tropical Storm Gonzalo will cause cloudiness, showers and thunderstorms mainly over the southern portion of the eastern Caribbean region tonight.

At 5:00 am today the centre of Tropical Storm Gonzalo was located near latitude 10.1 degrees north, longitude 58.7 degrees west, about 270 miles or 500 kilometres southeast of Saint Lucia.

Maximum sustained winds are near 40 mph or 65 km/h. Little change in strength is expected before Gonzalo reaches the southern Windward Islands. Weakening is expected after Gonzalo moves over the Eastern Caribbean sea and this system is forecast to dissipate by Sunday night or Monday.

Tropical Storm Gonzalo is moving towards the west at 17 mph or 28 km/h. A westward to west-northwestward motion is expected for the next couple of days.

On this track the centre of Gonzalo will move across the southern Windward Islands Saturday afternoon or evening and over the eastern Caribbean Sea on Sunday.

Gonzalo is expected to produce total rain accumulations of 2 to 5 inches or 50

to 127 mm, with isolated maximum amounts of 8 inches or 200 mm over Saint Lucia and the southern Windward Islands.

Residents and interests in Saint Lucia and the Windward Islands are advised to closely monitor the progress of this system.

Two tropical waves located over the Central and Eastern Tropical Atlantic are moving westward near 17 mph or 28 km/h.
