Seas: Moderate to locally rough with waves 4 to 6 feet or 1.2 to 1.8 metres and northeasterly to easterly swells up to 8 feet or 2.4 metres later today.

Small craft operators and sea bathers, particularly on the northern and eastern coasts, are advised to exercise caution due to swells generated by Hurricane Teddy.

FORECAST FOR THE LESSER ANTILLES

Fair to partly cloudy and hazy, with a few brief scattered showers and possibly isolated thunderstorms.

TROPICAL WEATHER OUTLOOK

A relatively dry atmosphere will over the Eastern Caribbean region will limit shower activity over the Lesser Antilles during the next 24 hours.

Hurricane Teddy

At 11:00 am today, the center of Hurricane Teddy was located near latitude 16.5 degrees north, longitude 49.7 degrees west or about 772 miles or 1243 kilometers northeast of Saint Lucia. Teddy is moving toward the northwest near 12 mph or 19 km/h and this general motion is forecast to continue for the next few days.

Maximum sustained winds are near 100 mph or 155 km/h, with higher gusts. Teddy is now a category 2 hurricane. Additional strengthening is forecast and Teddy is likely to become a major hurricane by late tonight.

Hurricane Teddy does not pose a direct threat to our region, however swells generated by this system are expected to reach the Lesser Antilles later today.

…Tropical Storm Vicky…

At 11:00 am today, the center of Tropical Storm Vicky was located over the central tropical Atlantic near latitude 21.5 degrees north, longitude 34.7 degrees west. Vicky is moving toward the west near 9 mph or 15 km/h. Weakening is forecast and Vicky is expected to become a remnant low on Thursday or Friday.

Tropical Storm Vicky is not expected to pose a threat to the Eastern Caribbean region.

A tropical wave located over the eastern tropical Atlantic is moving westward near 17 mph or 28 km/h. Environmental conditions are conducive for development and a tropical depression is likely to form over the central tropical Atlantic during the next few days.

The Saint Lucia Meteorological Services will continue to closely monitor and provide updates on the progress of these systems.
