TROPICAL WEATHER OUTLOOK

Moisture and instability trailing Hurricane Teddy is expected to produce some scattered showers and possibly isolated thunderstorms over the Lesser Antilles during the next 24 hours.

…Hurricane Teddy…

At 5:00 pm today, the center of Hurricane Teddy was located near latitude 23.1 degrees north, longitude 57.0 degrees west or about 520 miles or 835 kilometers northeast of the northern Leeward Islands. Teddy is moving toward the northwest near 14 mph or 22 km/h and this motion is expected to continue for the next couple of days. Maximum sustained winds are near 125 mph or 205 km/h with higher gusts. A tropical storm watch has been issued for the island of Bermuda.

Hurricane Teddy does not pose a direct threat to our region, however swells generated by this system will continue to affect the Lesser Antilles into the weekend.

…Tropical Storm Wilfred…

At 5:00 pm today, the center of Tropical Storm Wilfred was located over the central tropical Atlantic near latitude 12.5 degrees north, longitude 34.4 degrees west. Wilfred is moving toward the west-northwest near 18 mph or 30 km/h and this general motion is expected for the next few days. Maximum sustained winds are near 40 mph or 65 km/h with higher gusts. Some slight strengthening is possible overnight and Saturday, and weakening should begin by Sunday.

Tropical Storm Wilfred is not expected to pose a threat to our region.

A tropical wave is forecast to move off the African coast by tomorrow. There is a low chance of further development of this wave during the next five days, as it moves generally west-northwestward.
