TROPICAL WEATHER OUTLOOK

Moisture and instability associated with a trough system, coupled with a light wind regime, will generate occasional cloudiness, showers and isolated thunderstorms over the Lesser Antilles, during the forecast period.

At 5:00 am today, the centre of Hurricane Sam was located near latitude 12.8 degrees north, longitude 46.7 degrees west or about 1150 miles or 1855 km east-southeast of the northern Leeward Islands. Sam is moving toward the west near 13 mph or 20 km/h. Maximum sustained winds have increased to near 110 mph or 175 km/h, with higher gust. Additional strengthening is forecast and Sam is expected to become a major hurricane later today.

Interests in the Leeward and northern Windward Islands are advised to continue to monitor the progress of this system.

A tropical wave located over the eastern Tropical Atlantic is moving westward near 15 mph or 24 km/h.
