FORECAST FOR THE LESSER ANTILLES

Partly cloudy to occasionally cloudy skies with widely scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms.

TROPICAL WEATHER OUTLOOK

Moisture and instability associated with a trough system, coupled with a light wind regime, will generate occasional cloudy periods with showers and isolated thunderstorms over the Lesser Antilles, during the forecast period.

At 11:00 am today, the centre of Hurricane Sam was located near latitude 12.9 degrees north, longitude 47.6 degrees west or about 1095 miles or 1760 km east-southeast of the northern Leeward Islands. Sam is moving toward the west- northwest near 10 mph or 17 km/h. Maximum sustained winds have increased to near 120 mph or 195 km/h, with higher gust. Sam is now a category 3 hurricane and is forecast to become a category 4 hurricane by Sunday. Sam is not expected to directly impact the Islands, however swells generated by Sam are forecast to reach the Lesser Antilles early next week.

Interests in the Leeward and northern Windward Islands are advised to continue monitoring the progress of this system.

A tropical wave located over the eastern Tropical Atlantic is moving westward near 15 mph or 24 km/h.
