Partly cloudy skies, becoming cloudy at times with some scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms over the central and southern portions of the Lesser Antilles. Further north, fair to partly cloudy skies with a few showers.

TROPICAL WEATHER OUTLOOK
The atmosphere over the Lesser Antilles remains relatively moist and unstable to cause occasional cloudy periods with some showers and isolated thunderstorms mainly over the central and southern portions of our region, during the forecast period.

At 5:00 pm today, the centre of Hurricane Sam was located near latitude 17.9 degrees north, longitude 55.0 degrees west or about 530 miles or 855 km east of the northern Leeward Islands. Sam is moving toward the northwest near 9 mph or 15 km/h. Maximum sustained winds are near 130 mph or 215 km/h, with higher gusts. Sam is a category 4 hurricane. Although Hurricane Sam does not pose a direct threat to our region, swells generated by this system will impact the Lesser Antilles during the next several days.

Interests in the Leeward Islands are advised to continue monitoring the progress of this system.
