At 5:00 pm today, the centre of Hurricane Sam was located near latitude 20.2 degrees north, longitude 57.6 degrees west or about 385 miles or 620 kilometres east-northeast of the northern Leeward Islands. Sam is moving toward the northwest near 9 mph or 15 km/h and will pass well to the east-northeast of the northern Leeward Islands through tonight. Maximum sustained winds are near 130 mph or 215 km/h, with higher gusts. Although Hurricane Sam does not pose a direct threat to the region, swells generated by this system will impact the northern portion of the Lesser Antilles during the next couple of days.

A tropical wave located over the central Tropical Atlantic is moving westward near 12 mph or 19 km/h. This wave is expected to be near the Lesser Antilles by late Friday.

An area of low pressure located over central tropical Atlantic has a low chance for tropical cyclone development during the next five days.

At 5:00 pm today, newly formed Tropical Storm Victor was located over the far eastern Tropical Atlantic.  Victor is moving towards the west-northwest with a turn towards northwest in the next couple of days. On this current forecast track, Victor does not pose a direct threat to the islands of the Lesser Antilles.
