FORECAST FOR THE LESSER ANTILLES

Partly cloudy to cloudy at times with some scattered showers and a chance of isolated thunderstorms across the northen Windwards and Leeward Islands.  Further south, fair skies becoming cloudy at times with som scattered showers and a chance of isolated thunderstorms.

TROPICAL WEATHER OUTLOOK

Moist and instability associated with the leading edge of the recently upgraded Tropical cyclone Fiona will produce an increase in cloudiness and showers with possible isolated thunderstorms across the northern and central Eastern Caribbean region during the forecast period.

At 9:00 pm last night, Tropical Depression Seven strengthened into the 6th Tropical storm of the Atlantic Hurricane season, Tropical Storm Fiona.  At 5:00 am, the center of Tropical Storm Fiona was located near latitude 16.6 North, longitude 53.0 West. Fiona is moving toward the west near 13 mph or 20 km/h, and this general motion is expected to continue during the next few days. On the forecast track, the center of the storm is forecast to move through the Leeward Islands late Friday and Friday night, and be near the Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico this weekend.  Maximum sustained winds are near 50 mph or 85 km/h with higher gusts. Little change in strength is forecast during the next few days.

Tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 140 miles (220 km) east of the center.

Tropical storm watch is in effect for the islands from Monserrat and islands further north.

A tropical wave located over the central and far eastern tropical Atlantic are moving westward near 12 mph or 19 km/ and 6 mph or 9 km/h.
