FORECAST FOR THE LESSER ANTILLES

Cloudy to overcast with scattered showers, which will be heavy in some locations, gusty winds and isolated thunderstorms over the Leeward and northern Windward Islands. Further south, fair skies becoming cloudy at times with a few scattered showers and a chance of isolated thunderstorms.

TROPICAL WEATHER OUTLOOK

Moist and unstable conditions ahead of Tropical Storm Fiona, will continue to cause cloudiness, showers and thunderstorms over the northern portion of the Lesser Antilles during the forecast period.

At 11:00 am today, the center of Tropical Storm Fiona was located near latitude 16.0 North, longitude 59.4 West or 265 miles or 425 kilometres east-southeast of the Leeward Islands. Fiona is moving toward the west near 14 mph or 22 km/h, and this general motion with a decrease in forward speed is expected to continue through early Sunday. On this forecast track, the center of Fiona is forecast to move across the Leeward Islands tonight and early Saturday, and move near the Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico late Saturday into Sunday. Maximum sustained winds have decreased to near 50 mph or 85 km/h, with higher gusts. Some slight strengthening is forecast during the next few days. A Tropical Storm watch is in effect for Dominica and the British Virgin Islands and Tropical storm warnings  are in effect for the Leeward Islands.

Two tropical waves located over the central and far eastern Tropical Atlantic are moving westward near 17 mph or 28 km/h.
