FORECAST FOR THE LESSER ANTILLES

Cloudy to overcast with scattered moderate to heavy showers, gusty winds and thunderstorms over the Leeward and northern Windward Islands. Further south, generally cloudy becoming overcast at times with scattered showers, which may be heavy in some locations, and isolated thunderstorms.

TROPICAL WEATHER OUTLOOK

Adverse weather conditions associated with Tropical Storm Fiona, will affect the Lesser Antilles during the next 24 hours. Tropical storm watches and warnings have been issued for the islands of Dominica northward to portions of the Dominican Republic.

At 5:00 pm today, the center of Tropical Storm Fiona was located near latitude 16.4 North, longitude 61.1 West or 20 miles or 35 kilometres east-northeast of Guadeloupe. Fiona is moving toward the west near 15 mph or 24 km/h, and this general motion with a decrease in forward speed is expected to continue through early Monday. On this forecast track, the center of Fiona is forecast to move across the Leeward Islands tonight, and move near the Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico Saturday into Sunday, and approach the Dominican Republic Sunday afternoon. Maximum sustained winds are near 50 mph or 85 km/h, with higher gusts. Some gradual strengthening is forecast during the next day or so.

A tropical wave located over the central tropical Atlantic is moving westward near 17 mph or 28 km/h. This wave has a low chance of tropical cyclone development during the next five days.

Another tropical wave located over the eastern tropical Atlantic is moving westward near 20 mph or 31 km/h.
