Cloudy to overcast at times with scattered showers, which may be heavy in some locations, and isolated thunderstorms over the Leeward and northern Windward Islands. Further south, partly cloudy to cloudy at times with scattered showers, and a chance of isolated thunderstorms.

TROPICAL WEATHER OUTLOOK

Moist and unstable conditions trailing Hurricane Fiona, will continue to produce cloudiness, showers and isolated thunderstorms over the Lesser Antilles during the next 24 hours. Hurricane and tropical storm warnings and watches are in effect for the U.S and British Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic, the Turks and Caicos Islands and the southeastern Bahamas.

Fiona becomes a hurricane…At 11:00 am today, the center of Hurricane Fiona was located near latitude 17.3 North, longitude 66.5 West or 50 miles or 80 kilometres south of Puerto Rico. Fiona is moving toward the west-northwest near 8 mph or 13 km/h. On the forecast track, the center of Fiona will move near or over Puerto Rico this afternoon or evening.  Fiona will then move near the northern coast of the Dominican Republic tonight and Monday, and near or to the east of the Turks and Caicos Islands on Tuesday. Maximum sustained winds have increased to near 80 mph or 135 km/h, with higher gusts. Additional strengthening is forecast during the next couple of days.

Two tropical waves located over the western and central tropical Atlantic are moving westward near 17 mph or 28 km/h.

An area of low pressure located over the central tropical Atlantic is moving slowly northward. This system has a low chance of tropical cyclone development and is expected to remain over the central Atlantic during the next five days.
