TROPICAL WEATHER OUTLOOK
Moist and unstable conditions trailing Hurricane Fiona, will continue to produce cloudiness, showers and isolated thunderstorms over the Lesser Antilles during the next 24 hours. Hurricane and tropical storm warnings and watches are in effect for the U.S and British Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic, the Turks and Caicos Islands and the southeastern Bahamas.


At 5:00 pm today, the center of Hurricane Fiona was located near latitude 18.2 North, longitude 67.3 West or 10 miles or 15 kilometres west of Puerto Rico. Fiona is moving toward the northwest near 9 mph or 15 km/h. On the forecast track, the center of Fiona will move near the northern coast of the Dominican Republic tonight and Monday, and near or to the east of the Turks and Caicos Islands on Tuesday. Maximum sustained winds have increased to near 85 mph or 140 km/h, with higher gusts. Additional strengthening is forecast during the next 48 hours.


Two tropical waves located over the western and central Tropical Atlantic are moving westward near 17 mph or 28 km/h.


An area of low pressure located over the central Tropical Atlantic is moving slowly northward. This system has a low chance of tropical cyclone development and is expected to remain over the central Atlantic during the next five days.
