TROPICAL WEATHER OUTLOOK

A light and variable wind regime is expected across the Lesser Antilles during the next few days.

Gert becomes a post-tropical remnant low…

At 11:00 am today, the remnant low of Tropical Depression Gert was located near latitude 17.4 North, longitude 59.7 West or about 230 miles or 370 kilometres east-southeast of the northern Leeward Islands. The remnant low is moving toward the west-northwest near 5 mph or 7 km/h. Maximum sustained winds are near 30 mph or 45 km/h with higher gusts and this system should continue to gradually weaken into a trough over the next couple of days. However, interests in the Leeward Islands should still continue to monitor the progress of this system.

At 11:00 am today, the centre of Tropical Storm Franklin was located near latitude 15.5 North, Longitude 71.1 west or about 220 miles or 355 kilometres south-southwest of the Dominican Republic. Franklin is moving toward the northwest near 7 mph or 11 km/h. Franklin does not pose a threat to the Lesser Antilles.

A low pressure system associated with a tropical wave located over the eastern Tropical Atlantic, is moving westward near 12 mph or 19 km/h. This system has a medium chance of tropical cyclone formation during the next seven days.
