FORECAST FOR THE LESSER ANTILLES

Cloudy to overcast with some scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms over the Leeward and northern Windward Islands. Elsewhere, generally cloudy skies, becoming partly cloudy to occasionally cloudy with a few showers.

TROPICAL WEATHER OUTLOOK

Moisture and instability associated with Tropical Storm Philippe will continue to cause cloudiness with scattered showers and possibly isolated thunderstorms over the Leeward and northern Windward Islands during the next 24 hours.

At 5:00 pm today, the center of Tropical Storm Philippe was located near latitude 19.6 degrees North, longitude 64.9 degrees West or about 85 miles or 135 kilometers north of St. Thomas. Philippe is moving toward the northwest near 12 mph or 19 km/h. Maximum sustained winds are near 45 mph or 75 km/h, with higher gusts. On the forecast track, the center of Philippe is expected to move away from the Virgin Islands. Interests in the Leeward Islands should continue to monitor the progress of this system.

 

A tropical wave located over the western Tropical Atlantic is moving westward near 21 mph or 33 km/h.  This wave is expected to begin affecting our region by early Thursday.

Another tropical wave located over the eastern Tropical Atlantic is moving westward near 17 mph or 28 km/h.
