FORECAST FOR THE LESSER ANTILLES

Over the Northen Windward and Leeward Islands, generally cloudy skies with scattered moderate to heavy showers, periods of rain and thunderstorms. Elsewhere, mostly cloudy, with scattered light to moderate showers and a chance of isolated thunderstorms.

TROPICAL WEATHER OUTLOOK

…STRONG WINDS EXPECTED TO CONTINUE FOR A FEW MORE HOURS FOR THE NORTHERNMOST LEEWARD ISLANDS…

Hurricane Tammy will continue to cause cloudiness, periods of rain, scattered moderate to heavy showers and thunderstorms over the Lesser Antilles, during the forecast period.

At 5:00 am today, the center of Hurricane Tammy was located near latitude 18.5 degrees north, longitude 62.3 degrees west or about 55 miles or 90 kilometers east-northeast of Angilla. Tammy is moving toward the north-northwest near 10 mph or 17 km/h, and this general motion is expected to continue through today, followed by a turn toward the north or north-northeast on Monday. On the forecast track, the center of Tammy will move further away from the northernmost Leeward Islands later today.

Maximum sustained winds remain near 85 mph or 140 km/h, with higher gusts. Some strengthening is possible today followed by fluctuations in strength thereafter.

Tammy is expected to produce rainfall totals of 4 to 8 inches with maximum amounts of 12 inches over the Leeward Islands, and 2 to 4 inches with maximum amounts of 6 inches over portions of the Windward Islands.

Swells generated by Tammy will continue to affect portions of the northern Lesser Antilles during the next few days.

A Hurricane Warning is in effect for Barbuda and Anguilla, St. Maarten, St, Martin and St. Bathelemy.
