FORECAST FOR THE LESSER ANTILLES

Over the northern Leeward Islands, generally cloudy with scattered showers, which may be heavy in some locations, periods of rain and thunderstorms. Further south, partly cloudy to cloudy at times, with some scattered showers and a chance of isolated thunderstorms.

TROPICAL WEATHER OUTLOOK

Rainbands associated with Hurricane Tammy will continue to cause cloudiness, periods of rain, scattered showers and thunderstorms over northern Leeward Islands, during the forecast period.

Moist and unstable conditions in the wake of Hurricane Tammy will cause occasional cloudiness, scattered showers and possibly isolated thunderstorms over the remainder of the Lesser Antilles during the next 24 hours.  

… TAMMY PULLING AWAY FROM THE NORTHERN LEEWARD ISLANDS…

At 5:00 pm today, the center of Hurricane Tammy was located near latitude 19.9 degrees north, longitude 63.4 degrees west or about 120 miles or 190 kilometers north of Anguilla. Tammy is moving toward the northwest near 9 mph or 15 km/h. A turn toward the north is expected late tonight. Maximum sustained winds are near 85 mph or 140 km/h, with higher gusts.

On the forecast track, the center of Tammy will continue to move further away from the region. However, swells generated by Tammy will continue to affect the northern Leeward Islands during the next two days.

A surface trough located over the western tropical Atlantic is moving slowly westward. This system is expected to affect our region on Tuesday.
