At 11:00 am today, the center of Tropical Storm Kirk was located near latitude 13.5 north, longitude 34.8 west. Kirk is moving toward the west near 12 mph or 19 km/h. Maximum sustained winds are near 50 mph or 85 km/h, with higher gusts. Kirk is likely to become a hurricane tomorrow and a major hurricane by Wednesday. Tropical Storm Kirk does not pose a threat to our region at this time.
Shower and thunderstorm activity associated with a tropical wave have increased over the past few hours. This wave is currently located over the eastern Tropical Atlantic. Some gradual development of this system is possible during the next several days, while it moves slowly westward over the eastern Tropical Atlantic.
