TROPICAL WEATHER OUTLOOK

A light wind regime is expected across the Lesser Antilles, during the next few days. As a result, conditions are expected to be warm, with some localized showers over the islands during that period.

At 5:00 am today, the center of Tropical Storm Kirk was located near latitude 14.9 north, longitude 38.0 west. Kirk is moving toward the west-northwest near 14 mph or 22 km/h and a gradual turn toward the northwest is forecast for Wednesday and Thursday. Maximum sustained winds are near 60 mph or 95 km/h, with higher gusts. Kirk is likely to become a hurricane by tonight and could be a major hurricane on Thursday. Tropical Storm Kirk does not pose a threat to our region at this time.

A broad area of low pressure located over the eastern Tropical Atlantic is associated with a tropical wave moving slowly westward.  This system is showing some signs of organization and has a high chance of tropical cyclone development during the next seven days.
