TROPICAL WEATHER OUTLOOK
Moist and unstable conditions associated with a weak trough system will cause some cloudy periods with showers and possibly isolated thunderstorms over parts of the Lesser Antilles, during the next 24 hours.
At 11:00 am today, the centre of Tropical Storm Ian was located near latitude 14.4 north, longitude 75.2 west, or about 270 miles or 435 kilometres south southeast of Kingston Jamaica. Ian is moving toward the west at 15 mph or 24 km/h. Maximum sustained winds are near 45 mph or 75 km/h, with higher gusts. Significant strengthening is forecast during the next few days. Ian is expected to become a hurricane late Sunday or Sunday night. A Tropical Storm Watch is in effect for Jamaica and a Hurricane Watch is in effect for the Cayman Islands.
A broad area of low pressure located over the central Tropical Atlantic is moving slowly northwestward. This system has a low chance of tropical cyclone formation during the next five days.
