TROPICAL WEATHER OUTLOOK
Moist and unstable conditions associated with a weak trough system, will cause some cloudy periods with showers and possibly isolated thunderstorms over parts of the Lesser Antilles, during the next 24 hours.

At 5:00 pm today, the centre of Tropical Storm Ian was located near latitude 14.3 north, longitude 77.0 west, or about 255 miles or 410 kilometres south of Kingston Jamaica. Ian is moving toward the west at 16 mph or 26 km/h. Maximum sustained winds are near 45 mph or 75 km/h, with higher gusts. Significant strengthening is forecast during the next few days and Ian is expected to become a hurricane by late Sunday and a major hurricane by late Monday. A hurricane warning is in effect for the Cayman Islands. The tropical storm watch was discontinued for Jamaica.


A broad area of low pressure located over the central Tropical Atlantic is moving slowly northwestward. This system has a low chance of tropical cyclone formation during the next five days.
