Over the Leeward Islands it will be partly cloudy to cloudy at times with some scattered showers. Further south it will be fair to partly cloudy and hazy, with a few scattered showers.
TROPICAL WEATHER OUTLOOK
An increase in moisture and instability in the lower atmosphere over the region, due to an approaching weak low-level trough will cause some showers mainly over the Leeward Islands during the next 24 hours.
…Hurricane Teddy…
At 5:00 pm today, the center of Hurricane Teddy was located near latitude 17.5 degrees north, longitude 50.8 degrees west or about 710 miles or 1145 kilometers northeast of Saint Lucia. Teddy is moving toward the northwest near 13 mph or 20 km/h and this general motion is expected to continue for the next few days. Maximum sustained winds are near 100 mph or 155 km/h, with higher gusts. Teddy is now a category 2 hurricane. Additional strengthening is forecast and Teddy is likely to become a major hurricane in the next day or so. Hurricane Teddy does not pose a direct threat to our region, however swells generated by this system are expected to affect the Lesser Antilles.
…Tropical Storm Vicky…
At 5:00 pm today, the center of Tropical Storm Vicky was located near latitude 21.5 degrees north, longitude 35.7 degrees west. Maximum sustained winds are near 40 mph or 65 km/h with higher gusts. Vicky is moving toward the west near 9 mph or 15 km/h and is expected to gradually weaken into a Depression by tomorrow and dissipate by Saturday. Tropical Storm Vicky is not expected pose a threat to the Eastern Caribbean region.
A tropical wave located over the eastern Tropical Atlantic is moving westward near 15 mph or 24 km/h. Environmental conditions are conducive for development and a tropical depression is likely to form during the next few days.
