FORECAST FOR THE LESSER ANTILLES
Over the extreme northern portion of the lesser Antilles, generally cloudy skies with some scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms. Elsewhere, fair skies, becoming cloudy at times with a few scattered showers with a chance of isolated thunderstorms.
TROPICAL WEATHER OUTLOOK
Moisture and instability in the lower atmosphere over the Eastern Caribbean islands will cause some scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms across parts of the region.
At 5:00 am today, the centre of Hurricane Jerry was located near latitude 18.4 North, longitude 58.7 West or about 290 miles or 465 kilometres east of the northern Leeward Islands. Jerry is moving toward the west-northwest near 16 mph or 26 km/h. A west-northwest to northwest motion at a decreasing forward speed is expected over the next few days. On the forecast track, the centre of Jerry will move north of the northern Leeward Islands later today, pass well north of Puerto Rico on Saturday, and be well east-northeast of the southeastern Bahamas on Sunday.
Maximum sustained winds remain near 105 mph or 165 km/h with higher gusts. A gradual weakening trend is forecast to begin later today, but Jerry is expected to remain a hurricane during the next few days.
Hurricane-force winds extend outward up to 25 miles or 35 kilometres from the centre and tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 80 miles or 130 km.
Interests around the northern Leeward Islands should monitor the progress of Jerry. Hurricane Jerry pose no threat to Saint Lucia at this time.
A tropical wave located over the central tropical Atlantic is producing a large area of disorganized cloudiness and showers. The wave is expected to move quickly westward at about 20 mph during the next few days, and some development is possible while it approaches and moves across the Windward Islands this weekend.
A tropical wave is just off the west coast of Africa. Environmental conditions are expected to be conducive for development, and a tropical depression could form early next week while the wave moves westward over the eastern tropical Atlantic.
