TROPICAL WEATHER OUTLOOK
A tropical storm warning remains in effect for St. Vincent and the Grenadines and Grenada and its dependencies.
At 5:00 pm today the centre of Tropical Storm Karen was located near latitude 12.9 north, longitude 62.7 west or about 85 miles or 140 kilometers northwest of Grenada.
Karen is moving toward west northwest or 295 degrees at about 13 mph or 20 km/h. A turn toward the northwest is forecast to occur later tonight or on Monday, followed by a turn toward the north on Tuesday. On the forecast track, the centre of Karen will continue to move away from the Windward Islands this evening, and then move across the eastern Caribbean Sea tonight and Monday. On Tuesday, Karen is expected to pass near or over Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands.
Maximum sustained winds are near 40 mph or 65 km/h and little change in strength is expected during the next 48 hours.
Saint Lucia is expected to continue experiencing strong gusty winds, moderate to heavy showers, periods of rain and a few thunderstorms during the forecast period.
A tropical wave located over the eastern tropical Atlantic is moving westward near 15 mph or 24 km/h.
A strong tropical wave is located over the far eastern tropical Atlantic. The associated thunderstorm activity continues to show signs of organization, and a tropical depression or tropical storm is expected to form tonight while the system moves generally westward over the eastern tropical Atlantic at 15 to 20 mph.
