TROPICAL WEATHER OUTLOOK

A tropical storm warnings have been discontinued for Saint Vincent and the Grenadines and Grenada and its dependencies.

At 5:00 am today the centre of Tropical Storm Karen was located near latitude 13.6 north, longitude 63.9 west or about 180 miles or 295 kilometers west of Saint Vincent.  Karen is moving toward the northwest near 8 mph (13 km/h), and this general motion is forecast to continue today.  A turn toward the north is expected on Tuesday.  On the forecast track, the center of Karen will move across the eastern Caribbean Sea through tonight.  On Tuesday, Karen is expected to pass near or over Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands.

Maximum sustained winds are near 40 mph or 65 km/h with higher gusts. Some fluctuations in strength will be possible during the next 48 hours due to strong upper-level winds.  

Saint Lucia is expected to continue experiencing occasional gusts, some moderate to heavy showers, periods of rain and a chance of thunderstorms during the forecast period.

A tropical wave located over the eastern tropical Atlantic is moving westward near 15 mph or 24 km/h.

At 11:00 pm on Sunday Tropical Depression Thirteen formed in the far Eastern Atlantic. Tropical Depression Thirteen is located near 10.8N 20.9W or 365 nm SE of the southernmost Cabo Verde Islands, moving W at 13 kt. Estimated minimum pressure is 1007 mb. Maximum sustained winds of 30 kt with gust to 40 kt. A general motion toward the west is expected through Monday, with a motion toward the west-northwest expected Monday night and Tuesday. On the forecast track, the center of the depression should pass well south of the Cabo Verde Islands. Steady strengthening is expected, with the depression forecast to become a tropical storm on Monday and a hurricane by Tuesday night.
