FORECAST FOR THE LESSER ANTILLES

Over the northern Windwards and Leeward Islands, skies will be cloudy to overcast with moderate to heavy showers, gusty winds and thunderstorms. Elsewhere, partly cloudy to cloudy skies with a few scattered showers.

TROPICAL WEATHER OUTLOOK

At 5:00 pm today, an area of disturbance being monitored for cyclone development has now become Potential Tropical Cyclone number six (#6). The system was centered near latitude 14.2 North, longitude 59.2 West or about 121 miles or 195 kilometers east-northeast of Saint Lucia. Potential Tropical Cyclone number six (#6) is moving toward the west-northwest near 15 mph or 24 km/h. This general motion is expected to continue during the next few days. On the forecast track, the system is expected to move north of Saint Lucia and through a portion of the southern Leeward Islands tonight. Maximum sustained winds are near 35 mph or 55 km/h with higher gusts. Gradual strengthening is forecast during the next 48 hours and the disturbance is expected to become a tropical storm tonight.

Interests around the Eastern Caribbean islands are advised to closely monitor the progress of this system.

A second low pressure system is located several hundred miles east of the Lesser Antilles and is slowly moving westward. Environmental conditions are no longer favourable for further development of this system.

Two tropical waves located over the central and eastern Tropical Atlantic are moving westward near 15 mph or 24 km/h.
