FORECAST FOR THE LESSER ANTILLES

Over the northern Windwards and Leeward Islands, skies will be cloudy to overcast with moderate to heavy showers, gusty winds and thunderstorms. Elsewhere, partly cloudy to cloudy skies with a few scattered showers and a chance of isolated thunderstorms.

TROPICAL WEATHER OUTLOOK

At 5:00 am today, Potential Tropical Cyclone number six (#6) was centered near latitude 15.7 North, longitude 62.2 West or about 142 miles or 229 kilometers northwest of Saint Lucia and it is coupled with a tropical wave. The system is moving toward the west-northwest near 17 mph or 28 km/h and is expected to continue to move away from Saint Lucia. Maximum sustained winds are near 35 mph or 55 km/h with higher gusts. Gradual strengthening is forecast during the next 24 to 48 hours and the disturbance is expected to become a tropical storm later this morning.

Interests around the Eastern Caribbean islands are advised to closely monitor the progress of this system.

Two other tropical waves are located over the central and eastern Tropical Atlantic and are moving westward near 15 mph or 24 km/h.
