FORECAST FOR THE LESSER ANTILLES
Partly cloudy to cloudy skies with scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms over the central and southern portions of the Lesser Antilles. Further north, fair to partly cloudy skies with a few showers.

TROPICAL WEATHER OUTLOOK
Moisture and instability associated with an upper level trough, coupled with a light wind regime, will continue to generate some cloudy periods with scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms over the central and southern portions of our region, during the forecast period.

At 11:00 am today, the centre of Hurricane Sam was located near latitude 15.7 degrees north, longitude 52.1 degrees west or about 745 miles or 1200 km east-southeast of the northern Leeward Islands. Sam is moving toward the northwest near 8 mph or 13 km/h. Maximum sustained winds are near 125 mph or 205 km/h, with higher gusts. Sam is a category 3 hurricane. Although Hurricane Sam does not pose a direct threat to our region, swells generated by this system are expected to reach the Lesser Antilles today.

Interests in the Leeward Islands are advised to continue monitoring the progress of this system.

A broad area of low pressure, located over the central tropical Atlantic is moving westward near 9 mph or 15 km/h. This system has a high chance of tropical cyclone formation during the next five days.

Two tropical waves located over the central and eastern Tropical Atlantic are moving westward near 17 mph or 28 km/h.

A third tropical wave just off the west coast of Africa is moving westward near 15 mph or 24 km/h. This system has a high chance of tropical cyclone formation during the next five days.
