Over the Windward Islands and areas further south, partly cloudy to occasionally cloudy with scattered showers, which may be heavy in some locations, and isolated thunderstorms. Over the Leeward Islands, fair to partly cloudy with a few scattered showers.

TROPICAL WEATHER OUTLOOK

Moist and unstable conditions induced by Hurricane Sam, will continue to generate some cloudy periods with scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms mainly over the southern half of the Lesser Antilles during the next 24 hours.

At 11:00 am today, the centre of Hurricane Sam was located near latitude 22.6 degrees north, longitude 60.0 degrees west or about 365 miles or 585 kilometres north-northeast of the northern Leeward Islands. Sam is moving toward the northwest near 13 mph or 20 km/h. Maximum sustained winds are near 145 mph or 230 km/h, with higher gusts. Although Hurricane Sam does not pose a direct threat to the region, swells generated by this system will continue to impact the northern Leeward Islands today.

A tropical wave located over the central Tropical Atlantic is moving westward near 12 mph or 19 km/h. This wave is expected to affect the Lesser Antilles late Friday into Saturday.

An area of low pressure located over central tropical Atlantic is drifting slowly westward. This system is no longer expected to develop due to unfavourable environmental conditions.

At 11:00 am today, the center of Tropical Storm Victor was located over the eastern Tropical Atlantic near latitude 9.5 degrees north, longitude 28.9 degrees west.  Victor is moving towards the west-northwest near 14 mph or 22 km/h with a turn towards the northwest expected over the weekend. Victor is expected to remain over the open Atlantic and poses no threat to the Lesser Antilles.
