At 5:00 pm today, the center of Tropical Storm Philippe was located near latitude 16.8 degrees north, longitude 42.5 degrees west. Philippe is moving toward the west-northwest near 12 mph or 19 km/h. This general motion and is expected for the next couple of days. Maximum sustained winds have increased to near 50 mph or 85 km/h, with higher gusts. Philippe is expected to remain over the open water and poses no direct threat to our region.
