FORECAST FOR THE LESSER ANTILLES

Fair skies, becoming cloudy at times with a few showers over the Leeward and northern Windward Islands.  Further south, partly cloudy to cloudy with scattered showers and a chance of isolated thunderstorms.

TROPICAL WEATHER OUTLOOK

Light to moderate winds will continue across the Lesser Antilles during the forecast period.

The Inter-Tropical Convergence Zone is expected to cause cloudy periods with scattered showers, and possibly isolated thunderstorms over the extreme southern portion of the region during the forecast period.

At 5:00 am today, the center of Tropical Storm Philippe was located near latitude 17.4 degrees north, longitude 43.9 degrees west. Philippe is moving toward the west-northwest near 10 mph or 17 km/h. This general motion is expected for the next day or two, with a gradual turn to the northwest by mid-week. Maximum sustained winds remain near 50 mph or 85 km/h, with higher gusts. Philippe is expected to remain over the open water and poses no direct threat to our region.

A tropical wave located over the eastern Tropical Atlantic is moving westward near 12 mph or 19 km/h.  This wave has a high chance of tropical cyclone formation during the next seven days.
