TROPICAL WEATHER OUTLOOK

A trough system is expected to cause occasional cloudiness, with scattered showers and possibly isolated thunderstorms over the Lesser Antilles during the forecast period.

At 5:00 am today, the center of Tropical Storm Philippe was located near latitude 17.7 degrees north, longitude 49.0 degrees west or 925 miles east of the Northern Leeward Islands. Philippe is moving toward the west near 13 mph or 20 km/h and this general motion is forecast to continue for the next few days.

Maximum sustained winds are near 50 mph or 85 km/h, with higher gusts. Gradual weakening is expected during the next few days. Philippe is expected to remain over the open water and poses no direct threat to our region.

A tropical wave located over the central Tropical Atlantic is moving westward near 17 mph or 28 km/h. This wave has a high chance of tropical cyclone formation during the next seven days.
