FORECAST FOR THE LESSER ANTILLES

TROPICAL WEATHER OUTLOOK

Tropical Storm Tammy will cause cloudiness, periods of rain, scattered moderate to heavy showers and thunderstorms over the Lesser Antilles, during the forecast period.

At 5:00 am today, the center of Tropical Storm Tammy was located near latitude 14.0 degrees North, longitude 58.3 degrees West or about 100 miles or 155 kilometers northeast of Barbados. Tammy is moving toward the west-northwest near 8 mph or 13 km/h, and this general motion is expected to continue through this afternoon. A turn toward the northwest is anticipated by this evening, followed by a north-northwestward and northward turn Saturday night through Sunday night.

On the forecast track, the center of Tammy will move near or over the Leeward Islands tonight and Saturday. Maximum sustained winds are near 60 mph or 95 km/h, with higher gusts. Gradual strengthening is expected over the next few days and Tammy is forecast to be at or near hurricane intensity when it moves near or over the Leeward Islands.

Tammy is expected to produce rainfall totals of 4 to 8 inches with maximum amounts of 12 inches over the Leeward Islands and 2 to 4 inches with maximum amounts of 6 inches over the northern Windward Islands.

A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for most of the Leeward Islands. A Tropical Storm Watch is in effect for Barbados and Martinique. A Hurricane Watch is in effect for Guadeloupe, Antigua and Barbuda, Montserrat, St. Kitts and Nevis, Anguilla, St. Maarten, St. Martin and St. Barthelemy.
