Winds will be blowing from the northeast near 12 mph or 19 km/h, with gusts near showers, at first.  However, sometime during the night, the winds are expected to blow from the southwest.

Weather: Generally cloudy skies with a few periods of rain, some scattered

         moderate to heavy showers and isolated thunderstorms. 

Residents and motorists in areas prone to flooding and landslides are advised to exercise caution.

Small craft operators and sea bathers are advised to exercise caution due to locally rough seas caused by Hurricane Tammy.

…HEAVY RAINFALL AND FLOODING LIKELY OVER MUCH OF THE LESSER

ANTILLES…

Hurricane Tammy will continue to cause cloudiness, periods of rain, scattered moderate to heavy showers and thunderstorms over the Lesser Antilles, during the forecast period.

At 5:00 pm today, the center of Hurricane Tammy was located near latitude 14.3 degrees North, longitude 59.2 degrees West or about 125 miles or 200 kilometers east-southeast of Martinique. Tammy is moving toward the west-northwest near 7 mph or 11 km/h. A turn toward the northwest is anticipated tonight, followed by a north-northwestward and northward turn Saturday night through Sunday night. 

On the forecast track, the center of Tammy will move near or over portions of the Leeward Islands tonight through Saturday night, and then move north of the northern Leeward Islands on Sunday.

Maximum sustained winds are near 75 mph or 120 km/h, with higher gusts. Gradual strengthening is expected over the next couple of days and Tammy is forecast to remain a hurricane while it moves near or over portions of the Leeward Islands.  

Tammy is expected to produce rainfall totals of 4 to 8 inches with maximum amounts of 12 inches over the Leeward Islands and 2 to 4 inches with maximum amounts of 6 inches over the northern Windward Islands.

A Hurricane Warning is in effect for most of the Leeward Islands. A hurricane watch and a tropical storm warning are in effect for Dominica. A Tropical Storm Watch is in effect for Barbados and Martinique.
