FORECAST FOR THE LESSER ANTILLES

Mostly cloudy with scattered showers, which may be heavy in some locations and isolated thunderstorms over the northern Leeward and southern Windward Islands. Over the central Lesser Antilles, partly cloudy, becoming cloudy at times with some scattered showers and a chance of isolated thunderstorms.

TROPICAL WEATHER OUTLOOK

Moisture and instability associated with the Inter-Tropical Convergence Zone, will cause cloudiness, showers and isolated thunderstorms over the southern portion of the Lesser Antilles, during the forecast period.

Feeder bands associated with Tropical Storm Earl will continue to affect the northern Leeward Islands today.

At 11:00 am today, the center of Tropical Storm Earl was located near latitude 23.7 North, longitude 65.7 West. Earl is moving toward the north near 5 mph or 7 km/h. On the forecast track, Earl will continue to slowly move away from our region. Maximum sustained winds are near 65 mph or 100 km/h, with higher gusts. Some strengthening is forecast and Earl could become a hurricane later this week.

A low-level trough located just east of the Lesser Antilles is drifting slowly westward and is expected to affect the islands from tonight.

A tropical wave located over the central Tropical Atlantic is moving westward near 15 mph or 24 km/h.

A broad area of low pressure associated with another tropical wave located over the eastern Tropical Atlantic, is moving westward near 17 mph or 28 km/h. This system has a medium chance of tropical cyclone development within during the next five days.

A third tropical wave is forecast to emerge off the west coast of Africa during the next day or two. Some gradual development of this system is possible during the next five days, while it moves generally westward across the eastern Tropical Atlantic.
