TROPICAL WEATHER OUTLOOK

The Atlantic High-Pressure System will continue to generate light to moderate easterly winds across the region during the next few days.

The Inter-Tropical Convergence Zone will continue to affect the southern portion of our region during the forecast period.

At 5:00 pm today, the centre of Hurricane Lee was located near latitude 14.9 North, longitude 46.4 West or about 1130 miles or 1815 kilometres east of the northern Leeward Islands. Lee is moving toward the west-northwest near 14 mph or 22 km/h, and this motion is expected to continue for the next few days with a slight reduction in forward speed. Maximum sustained winds have increased to near 75 mph or 120 km/h, with higher gusts. Continued steady to rapid strengthening is forecast and Lee is expected to become a major hurricane in a day or two. Interests in the northern Leeward Islands should monitor the progress of this system.

A strong tropical wave located over the far eastern Tropical Atlantic is moving westward near 15 mph or 24 km/h. This system has a medium chance of tropical cyclone formation during the next seven days.
