Sam is moving toward the northwest near 9 mph or 15 km/h. Maximum sustained winds are near 120 mph or 195 km/h, with higher gusts. Sam is a category 3 hurricane. Although Hurricane Sam does not pose a direct threat to our region, swells generated by this system will impact the Lesser Antilles for the next several days.

Interests in the Leeward Islands are advised to continue monitoring the progress of this system.

A broad area of low pressure, located over the central Tropical Atlantic is moving westward near 8 mph or 13 km/h. This system has a high chance of tropical cyclone formation during the next five days.
